Position Overview:
We are a boutique law firm based in Monterey Park, California, seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Legal Assistant or Paralegal to support our attorneys in civil/business litigation and family law matters. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience and demonstrate strong legal knowledge, case management skills, and the ability to provide consistent and reliable support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys in handling family law matters, including divorce, child custody, adoption, financial disclosures, and social service coordination.
- Conduct client interviews related to domestic disputes, civil litigation, and family matters.
- Draft legal documents, including pleadings, declarations, and discovery requests/responses.
- Prepare evidence, legal arguments, and documentation for hearings and trials.
- Research legal information and validate findings for accuracy and relevance.
- Coordinate with clients, courts, and third-party professionals as needed.
- Maintain accurate billing and time entries based on assigned cases.
- Prepare written reports and legal correspondence for attorney review.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in Family Law and/or Civil Litigation (Required).
- Demonstrated experience working in or supporting California-based law firms (Preferred).
- Strong understanding of case workflows, court procedures, and legal terminology.
- Familiarity with billing practices and meeting billable hour requirements.
- Proven track record of stable employment (minimum of 1 full year tenure per role preferred).
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and handle confidential information with discretion.
- Proficiency in legal software, document management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Fluency in Mandarin is a plus but not a requirement.
