Intern (Pro Bono)

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking an Intern to support the Pro Bono practice, working under the general supervision of assigned attorneys and practice management.

This Internship opportunity will start immediately with the potential for recent graduates to continue on full-time after the summer. 

Interns are eligible to work a hybrid schedule in the New York office. 

Key responsibilities of this position include:

• Work directly with the pro bono team to manage all aspects of Akin’s firmwide pro bono practice
• Organize upcoming pro bono clinics in a variety of public interest issue areas, including immigration, veterans, housing and life planning
• Assist with the firm’s immigration case docket, including client onboarding, resource creation, and tracking case outcomes
• Support pro bono committee liaisons to national and local legal aid organizations
• Manage legal aid event tracking system by maintaining guest lists and required sponsorship materials
• Assist pro bono practice with planning and executing Pro Bono Auction
• Support the organization of internal pro bono events such as trainings, panels, and roundtable discussions
• Assist with the preparation of responses to auditors, legal services organizations, and non-profit clients about hours and expenses related to pro bono matters
• Support production of various reports in preparation for Pro Bono Committee and practice group management meetings, as well as internal presentations
• Organize pro bono matter tracking system
• Miscellaneous administrative tasks

Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Enrolled in, or recently graduated from, accredited university or college
• High academic achievement, experience working in professional setting
• Foreign-language fluency; Spanish-language capacity a significant plus
